Wuhan (Correspondents Zheng Yuliu, Wang Zhenzhu, Yang Jia) On the afternoon of October 20th, the “Red Umbrella in Language” postgraduate social practice team from the School of Foreign Languages visited the Kindergarten of Wuhan Institute of Technology. They conducted a social practice activity with the environmental theme “Childlike Hearts Explore Nature, Little Hands Guard the Earth.” Through lively and engaging methods, the event aimed to help children learn about and participate in environmental protection through games and creative activities, sowing the seeds for a green lifestyle.

The event began with a carefully prepared “Waste-Sorting Mini Class,” where volunteers used illustrative pictures and actual items to introduce the four main waste categories, their sorting criteria, and color codes. By referencing items commonly encountered in the children’s daily lives, the volunteers explained the importance of waste-sorting on the environment, guiding them to develop the habit of disposing of garbage correctly from a young age.

Subsequent segments, the “Waste Sorting Card Game” and the “Environmental Knowledge Q&A,” transformed the classroom learning into interactive games. The children participated in group competitions, deepening their understanding and memory of waste sorting in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

During the “DIY Eco-bag” session, the children picked up acrylic markers and unleashed their creativity on kraft paper bags, drawing various environmentally themed patterns full of childlike charm. Volunteers provided patient guidance, encouraging the children to incorporate environmental concepts into their artwork. It not only enhanced the children's hands-on abilities but also allowed them to experience the joy of "turning trash into treasure" through creation.

At the conclusion of the event, all volunteers and children took a group photo to capture this warm and meaningful moment. The entire activity was well-organized, with clear division of tasks and seamless cooperation among the volunteers, ensuring the smooth progression of each segment.

A relevant official from the School of Foreign Languages stated that this activity is a concrete manifestation of the postgraduate student union actively practicing the spirit of volunteer service, as well as a beneficial attempt to promote the integration of environmental education on campus and in the community. Through the cooperation with the kindergarten, not only were the children's environmental knowledge enriched, but the university students' sense of responsibility to serve society and spread green concepts was also enhanced.
